Eric Mitz

Eric's Expert Take

Eric is our founder and CEO and has nearly 15 years of experience buying and selling used and junk cars in the state of Georgia. He is also a data nerd with a finger on the pulse of the cash for cars industry and salvage vehicle values.

I’m Eric, founder of The Clunker Junker, and I’ve been digging into our latest Georgia numbers. Over the last month, we’ve been paying an average of about $597 per vehicle across the state. Smaller cars, like a Toyota Corolla or Hyundai Elantra, tend to come in a bit lower at around $535. On the higher side, pickup trucks such as a Ford F-150 or Chevy Silverado are bringing in the strongest offers at about $792 on average. Sitting in the middle are SUVs and crossovers—think Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4—which are landing around $706. Those ranges help give you a ballpark of what your type of vehicle might be worth.

In the last 30 days alone, The Clunker Junker has bought roughly 18,875 vehicles and paid out over $10 million in cash to sellers nationwide. In Georgia specifically, the Honda Accord has been our most common purchase. The Accord is a midsize sedan, known for being comfortable and practical, but older ones often show up with issues like failing transmissions, oil leaks, worn suspension parts, and electrical gremlins such as power window or dashboard problems. When you’re staring at a repair bill that can run into the thousands—especially on a high‑mileage Accord—it usually makes more sense to sell the car as‑is, take the cash, and put that money toward something newer and more reliable rather than sinking more into a vehicle that’s only going down in value.

Right now, used and junk car prices in Georgia are very steady, only moving by about -0.2% per month, which is basically flat. We’re sitting in almost the same price range we were in a year ago, and based on what I’m seeing, I expect this stable market to stick around in the near term. A calm market like this is a solid time to sell because you’re not racing against fast price drops or big swings; you can make a decision without a lot of drama. I’ll keep tracking the trends and updating our offers so you know exactly where you stand when you’re ready to get cash for your car.

How to sign your Georgia car title

We have put together a simple guide and example for how to sign your Georgia title when you are selling your vehicle. If there are multiple owners listed on the title, they must all sign the title unless the names are separated with "OR".

  1. In Georgia you'll need to sign the back of the title in the "Assignment and warranty of title by owner" section towards the top. Be sure not to sign in the "dealer's assignment" sections!
  2. Sign your name on the back of the title where it reads "Transferor's (Sellers) signature"
Always sign in pen on the seller line and never sign in the dealer section.
  3. Print (don't sign) your name on the back of the title where it reads "Transferor's (Sellers) printed name" Always include any and all middle names or initials that are used in the owner section.

How to get rid of an abandoned vehicle in Georgia

Getting rid of an abandoned vehicle in Georgia can be a difficult process. Unfortunately, you cannot just sell any junk car that ends up on your property if you do not own it. You'll need to follow the Georgia abandoned vehicle removal procedures. We have given a general overview of what that entails below.

You can read more about selling an abandoned vehicle in Georgia

  1. Attempt to locate the legal owner of the vehicle using the VIN 17-digit number.
If there is no known information for the vehicle owner, you must advertise in newspaper of in the county where vehicle was obtained or at the county courthouse.
  2. To have the vehicle removed, you must first contact local law enforcement. They will determine if the vehicle has been stolen or not and if not and attempt to contact the owner and/or lienholder via certified or registered mail.
A tower will be dispatched to remove the vehicle. If neither the owner nor lienholder expressed interest in the vehicle after (30) thirty calendar days, the interested party must notify the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) using Notification of Abandoned Vehicle and Request for Information (form MV-603) with a $2.00 fee.
  3. Following the disposition, the interested party must submit Notification of Abandoned Vehicle and Request for Information (form MV-603) to the local MVD. From that point, the vehicle will be auctioned at public sale. Following the auction, the buyer of the vehicle may apply for a new title.
