Get cash for your junk car in Utah today!

Maybe your car is no longer Bonneville Salt Flats worthy, or maybe you wrapped it around one of Pando the Trembling Giant’s large roots in Fishlake National Forest. Either way, The Clunker Junker is here to help you get cash for cars in Utah! Our process is time tested, and our customers love how efficient we are. We buy cars in Utah and promise the best rates for your car regardless of the condition (as long as it’s complete!).

We’re the best car buyers in Utah

Of course, you do have other options when you want to sell a junk car in Utah. You could take your time with the tire kickers on sites like Craigslist. Keep in mind, you’re not selling a desirable car in top condition. The number of people actually interested in a wrecked car, or a car with mechanical issues, is very limited. We’ve got buyers next to every national forest, so in Utah’s case, that’s buyers in every county.

You could also drive your car to that guy with the sign on the side of the road that says he buys junk cars. Except, your car doesn’t drive, so you’ll have to pay for a tow. That’s pricey. And you know what will happen if you don’t like the offer he gives you? You’re going to be paying for a tow home. With The Clunker Junker, you’ll know what your offer is up front.

I guess you could also just drive it into Bingham Canyon mine, though that’s probably frowned upon by law enforcement. We do not condone that kind of behavior. Plus, with about 300 sunny days a year, why would you ever want to spend them locked up?

Eric Mitz

Eric's Expert Take

Eric is our founder and CEO and has nearly 15 years of experience buying and selling used and junk cars in the state of Utah. He is also a data nerd with a finger on the pulse of the cash for cars industry and salvage vehicle values.

Over the past month here in Utah, we’ve offered an average of $601 per vehicle. Smaller cars, like the Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic, usually come in a bit lower at around $548. On the other hand, pickup trucks such as the Ford F-150 or Chevrolet Silverado see higher offers, averaging about $748. SUVs and crossovers, for example, the Honda CR-V or Ford Escape, sit in the middle at around $709. These numbers reflect real offers we’ve made recently, so if you’re curious about your own vehicle’s value, this should give you a solid starting point.

In the last 30 days, The Clunker Junker has bought close to 7,000 vehicles and paid out over $4 million to folks just like you! Here in Utah, the Honda Civic, which is a compact sedan, stands out as our most popular purchase. While Honda Civics are known for their reliability, older models can develop common issues like transmission problems, worn-out suspensions, or electrical failures. Sometimes, the repair costs on a Civic can add up quickly, making it a smarter financial move to sell instead of sinking more money into repairs.

From what I’ve seen in the cash for cars market, prices in Utah have been very steady lately—only shifting by about 0.6% per month. That’s just a minimal change and puts us right around the same position we were in last year. Because the market is stable, now is a great time to consider selling your car. I’ll be keeping a close watch on any changes and will make sure to keep you updated with the latest news and trends as they happen.

How to sign your Utah car title

We have put together a simple guide and example for how to sign your Utah title when you are selling your vehicle. If there are multiple owners listed on the title, they must all sign the title unless the names are separated with "OR".

  1. On the back of your Utah title, look at "Section A" at the top where it says "Assignment of title by registered owner", then find the section labeled "Seller". Here is where you should sign and print your name. Leave the buyer section and everything in section B blank.
  2. First, sign the back of the title where indicated by "Signature of Seller (and joint seller)".
Always sign in pen on the seller line, and never sign in the dealer section.
  3. Next, print (don't sign) your name on the back of the title where it reads "Print name of seller".
Always include any and all middle names or initials that are used in the owner section.

How to get a duplicate Utah title

The process for getting a duplicate or replacement Utah title is fairly simple. If the vehicle was last titled in a state other than Utah you must apply for a duplicate title in the previous state. The registered owner should do the following:

  1. Fill out the Application for Duplicate Utah Title
  2. Bring your duplicate title application to your local MVD or mail your application and title fee to the UT motor vehicle division at:

    Division of Motor Vehicles
    Mail and Correspondence
    P.O. Box 30412
    Salt Lake City, UT 84130

  3. Please note that may be a waiting period before a duplicate title can be issued and the cost is $6.00. (Paid to the UT motor vehicle division).

How to get rid of an abandoned vehicle in Utah

Getting rid of an abandoned vehicle in Utah can be a difficult process. Unfortunately, you cannot just sell any junk car that ends up on your property if you do not own it. You'll need to follow the Utah abandoned vehicle removal procedures. We have given a general overview of what that entails below.

You can read more about selling an abandoned vehicle in Utah

  1. To get an abandoned vehicle removed from your private property, you must first contact your local law enforcement office.
  2. If the last registered owner and/or lienholder do not claim interest in the vehicle within (30) thirty days from the date of seizure, the vehicle will be sold at public auction.
Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions in UT

Can you buy cars with no title in Utah?

Sure can! Not every car, but we can buy some. It’ll depend on how old your car is and the exact location. No matter what, you’ll need to prove ownership with a matching photo ID and registration or insurance card. Also, your offer will probably be much lower without title.

What if my title doesn’t look like the one pictured?

Utah often changes their title documents from year to year. If you have questions about your specific title, please contact your Utah MVD.

Do I need to turn in my license plates?

Yes, unless you are transferring the plates to a new vehicle. You can return the plates to your local MVD office.

What should I do about my auto insurance?

You will need to notify your auto insurance company that you have sold the vehicle, so they can either cancel your policy if the vehicle was sold, or transfer/renew the policy on your new vehicle.
