Eric's Expert Take

Eric is our founder and CEO and has nearly 15 years of experience buying and selling used and junk cars in the state of Florida. He is also a data nerd with a finger on the pulse of the cash for cars industry and salvage vehicle values.

Hello, I’m Eric Mitz, CEO of The Clunker Junker, and I’m excited to share some recent insights from our offers in Florida. Over the past month, we’ve been offering an average of $718 for vehicles in the Sunshine State. For smaller cars, like the Honda Civic, we’re averaging around $664. Our highest offers go to pickup trucks, such as the Ford F-150, bringing in about $860 on average. Meanwhile, SUVs and crossovers, like the Toyota RAV4, fall in the middle, at approximately $838.

At The Clunker Junker, we’ve been busy! We recently purchased about 26,992 vehicles, shelling out over $20 million in the process. Our top acquisition in Florida was the Nissan Altima, a sedan loved for its balance of style and functionality. However, the Altima is known for issues like transmission failures and engine problems, which can be expensive to repair. Because of this, many owners find it more beneficial to sell their Altima rather than investing in costly fixes.

In the world of “cash for cars,” I’m seeing prices in Florida hold quite steady. They’ve been changing by only about 0.5% each month, keeping us at a similar point as we were last year. This stable market creates an ideal environment for selling your car, as there’s little volatility to worry about. Rest assured, I’m keeping a close watch on the market trends and will keep you updated on any significant changes.

How to sign your Florida car title

We have put together a simple guide and example for how to sign your Florida title when you are selling your vehicle. If there are multiple owners listed on the title, they must all sign the title unless the names are separated with "OR".

  1. On a Florida title, the seller needs to sign on the front in the section that says Transfer of Title By Seller. Make sure you don't sign in the dealer only sections on the back!
  2. First sign your name on the front of the title where it reads "Seller Name (sign here)"
Always sign in pen on the seller line and never sign in the dealer section.
  3. Next, print your name on the front of the title where it reads "Seller Name (print here)" Always include any and all middle names or initials that are used in the owner section.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions about car sales in Florida

Can you buy cars in Florida if I don’t have my title?

Yes, in many cases! However, you will need to prove that you are the legal owner by providing photo identification that matches the name on your current registration. Note that not all buyers in Florida are willing to buy cars without a title, and your offer may be significantly lower without one.

What if my title doesn’t look like the one pictured?

Florida often changes their title documents from year to year. If you have questions about your specific title, please contact your Florida DMV.

Do I need to turn in my license plates?

Yes, unless you are transferring the plates to a new vehicle. You can return the plates to your local DMV office.

What should I do about my auto insurance?

You will need to notify your auto insurance company that you have sold the vehicle, so they can either cancel your policy if the vehicle was sold, or transfer/renew the policy on your new vehicle.

Is there anything else I need to do after I sell my car?

You may need to notify your local DMV that you have sold the vehicle. You can contact them with any additional questions or concerns about the transfer of your title.
