While most tourists know Colorado for its beautiful Rocky Mountains, skiing villages and chalets, the majority of Coloradans are struggling to get by just like the rest of America. At the Clunker Junker, we understand that, and we recognize that one of the main reasons why our customers choose to sell us their cars is because they need money and quickly. Eric's Expert Take
Eric is our founder and CEO and has nearly 15 years of experience buying and selling used and junk cars in the state of Colorado. He is also a data nerd with a finger on the pulse of the cash for cars industry and salvage vehicle values.
Howdy! This is Eric Mitz, the man behind The Clunker Junker. Let’s talk about some exciting numbers in the car market over here in Colorado. It looks like the average deal we’re offering is approximately $666 for the good ole’ vehicles found in this part of the country. Compact cars are fetching, so to speak, a little less, with an average price of about $583. Now, pickup trucks are where you can truly get your bang for the buck, as they come in with an average price tag of about $836. Now, if you have your sights set on SUVs or crossovers, you’re looking at an average of $774.
We’ve grown some serious leaps here at The Clunker Junker recently. Would you believe that we have dealt with about 13,388 vehicles recently and had given out over a whopping 9 million dollars in exchange? In Colorado, a customer favorite seems to be the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Now, although this robust beauty has its high points, it does fall victim to some common issues. These can range from electrical gremlins to transmission slips that can burn a hole in your pocket. So, if you’ve got a Jeep Grand Cherokee on your hands, it might be a better idea to sell it to us instead of digging into your wallet for costly repairs.
As a seasoned player in the “cash for cars” industry, I’ve gotten pretty good at reading the market. Colorado’s car market has been quite stable, with prices fluctuating only about 2.6% each month. This steady rhythm is similar to what we saw a year ago. Based on this pattern, I won’t be surprised if these stable prices stick around for a bit longer. So, if you’re thinking of letting go of your car, now could be the perfect time. Just sit back, relax, and I’ll be sure to keep you posted on the latest market insights!
How to sign your Colorado car title
We have put together a simple guide and example for how to sign your Colorado title when you are selling your vehicle. If there are multiple owners listed on the title, they must all sign the title unless the names are separated with "OR".
- Be sure you are using the "Assignment by owner(s)" section on the top of the back side of the title. Do not sign or print in the dealer reassignment sections!
- Sign your name on the back of the title where indicated by "Seller(s) Signature" (see image).
Always sign in pen on the seller line, and never sign in the dealer section. - Hand print your name on the back of the title, where it says "Seller's hand printed name(s)". Always include any and all middle names or initials that are used in the owner section.
How to get a duplicate Colorado title
The process for getting a duplicate or replacement Colorado title is fairly simple. If the vehicle was last titled in a state other than Colorado you must apply for a duplicate title in the previous state. The registered owner should do the following:
- Fill out the Colorado Duplicate Title Request and Receipt form.
- Obtain a Secure and Verifiable Identification for vehicles purchased after July 1st, 2006.
- Bring your application for duplicate title to your local DMV office.
- The fee for a replacement Colorado title is $8.20. Please note, there may be a waiting period before a duplicate title can be issued.

- The vehicle can be removed by private tow
- To apply for the title, you must first attempt to locate the legal owner of the vehicle by using the 17-digit VIN number.
